Never entered a mountain bike race but want to give it a try?
Looking for a fun, non-intimidating environment in which to learn more about mountain bike racing?
Then our Learn to Race program is for you!
We combine a classroom session discussing some of our motivations to race, race rules and race categories, race etiquette and racer culture, what happens at a race, how to prepare for a race, nutrition and fitness, techniques and strategies to use in a race, and fears or anxieties that might hold a person back from racing.
Then in a couple of outdoor sessions we practice some techniques to use in racing, how to pass and be passed safely on a narrow track, culminating in a couple of 'mock races' to put together what we've learned and get some of the feeling for what it is like to be in a race situation.
Finally our graduates are ready for their first ABA-sanctioned race which could be the Iron Maiden, Solstice XC, Giver-8-er, 24 Hours of Adrenaline, or other event.
For 2013, we are hoping to recruit another 30 racers for the Intro to Racing Program plus continue to grow the number of veteran racers out at the mountain bike events! We have a mix of racers who plan to compete in shorter distance (cross-country) and longer distance (enduro) events. There is financial support for all SS racers.
Spin Sisters mountain bikers of any riding level who are comfortable on a bike (i.e. should have at least 1 season of riding) can participate in this program.
Maximum Participants: 30
